104 Countries and Counting

Nine days ago, Sentinel covered one country: the United States. Today it covers 104.

417,606 cameras. 10 types. 6 continents. Every data point from a public source.

How we got here

Day 1 (April 6): US-only. 354,000 cameras from OpenStreetMap, EFF, and FLOCK.

Day 2 (April 6-7): Built ingest scripts for government open data. Added UK (TfL, Leicester), Canada (DriveBC, 511 networks), and started Europe. Hit 88 countries overnight.

Day 3-4 (April 7-8): Systematic Overpass API queries for every country with OSM surveillance data. Baltics, Balkans, Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Africa. Crossed 100 countries at 1:29 AM.

Today: 104 countries. Angola was the latest addition.

What’s next

More countries. Better coverage in existing countries. And the data powering two new products: Sentinel Mobile (real-time alerts on your phone) and the Sentinel API (structured data for researchers and security teams).
