Sentinel Mobile: Surveillance Alerts on Your Phone

Waze tells you about speed cameras. We tell you about everything else.

The problem with current camera apps

Speed camera apps like Waze and Radarbot alert you to two types of cameras: speed and red light. They’re great at what they do. But the surveillance infrastructure around you includes much more:

  • CCTV cameras recording public spaces
  • ALPR readers logging every vehicle that passes
  • Facial recognition systems at entrances and transit hubs
  • Gunshot detection microphones that capture conversations
  • Cell-site simulators that intercept communications

None of these show up in Waze.

What Sentinel Mobile does

We’re building a mobile app that uses our database of 417,000+ cameras across 88 countries to give you real-time awareness of surveillance infrastructure around you.

Free tier: Open the app, see cameras near your current location. Search any address and get a surveillance exposure analysis.

Premium ($4.99/mo): Background monitoring with push notifications. “3 ALPR readers on your commute route.” Custom alert types. Monthly exposure reports showing where you’ve been and what was watching.

The privacy commitment

Here’s the irony of a surveillance awareness app: it needs your location to work. Our solution is simple.

Everything stays on your phone. The entire camera database is downloaded to your device (under 10MB). All proximity calculations happen locally. The app never makes a server call with your location. We never know where you are, where you’ve been, or what you searched for.

No analytics. No telemetry. No accounts. No server-side processing of any kind.

We map the watchers. We never watch you.

When?

We’re building now. The app will be available on iOS and Android. If you want early access, follow our progress on this blog.

In the meantime, try the web version. Same data, same privacy, in your browser.
